This March, celebrate Pancake Day, International Women’s Day and a host of FREE activities at the Elephant and Castle Community Hub with Castle Square.

For those with a sweet tooth, Brazilian restaurant Tupi will be serving up three types of delicious pancakes, including salted caramel & Oreo, mixed berries and bacon & maple syrup, which you will not want to miss. Born out of love and desire to make something unique, Tupi brings together the flavours of Europe and South America, creating a place to enjoy, make friends and eat good food. Tupi is open until 4pm on weekdays and until 10pm Thursday – Saturday.

If you fancy a savoury alternative to pancakes, you can visit Colombian café Coma Y Beba for their renowned Arepas! With a crunchy exterior and soft inner texture, you do not want to miss this South American treat. You can choose from a selection of toppings from chorizo, to shredded beef, chicken, black beans and more. Coma Y Beba is open from 9am until 6pm throughout the week and 5pm on Sundays. For those who are still craving the Colombian treats after hours, Diana Sach, Coma Y Beba’s founder, has shared her renowned Arepas recipe so you can make your own at home.  You can find the recipe here!

As well as a celebration of pancakes, we’ll be looking to celebrate the women serving up some of the best food and services at Castle Square, in celebration of International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8 March. International Women’s Day is a globally celebrated event to commemorate the achievement of women in our community. From meals, clothing and beauty services, we will be showcasing the female-run businesses of Castle Square who provide the best of their cultures to the Londoners!

Castle Square takes off their hat to the women serving up delicious, authentic and affordable meals from across the world. This includes Loroma Watson and Marcia Thompson from Original Caribbean Spice serving up Caribbean food, Diana Sach from Coma Y Beba offering a range of Colombian treats and Tatiana Calderon from El Guambra, specialising in traditional Ecuadorian dishes. All four of these women have been praised for their cooking and Londonders have been known to travel for their meals, so if you want to try something new, these are the ladies to visit.

As well as cultural leaders in the food industry, if you’re needing specialised European and Afro hair care, Castle Square is host to female entrepreneurs Elizabeth Duque-Medellin from Medellin Moda, Colombian Fajs/shapewear specialists and Paloma Sanchez from unisex hair and beauty salon Lonnies. These women have inspired many of the local community, through their long-term successful business endeavours and commitment to working in Elephant and Castle for more than 15 years – giving us a taste of their cultural flavours, products and talents throughout the area.

If you are looking for something new to try this March, there are also a host of free activities for the community both online and offline at the Elephant and Castle Community Hub. Locals can spend their time learning, doing arts & crafts, fitness classes, yoga and more. See the full timetable here and all events are FREE!
