30.04.2021 HEAD TO CASTLE SQUARE IN ELEPHANT & CASTLE THIS SPRING FOR A FUN DAY OUT FOR ALL THE FAMILY

  • Kids are invited to join the interactive and free Elephant Trail discovering the stories behind the area’s well-known mascot
  • Across the month enjoy live music, DJs and street performers whilst shopping or dining out
  • There’s entertainment to be had from home as well with the Virtual Community Hub’s jam-packed programme

With the sun shining and a number of Bank Holidays to celebrate, Zone 1’s Elephant & Castle is putting on an interactive trail for the whole family to enjoy this May. The Free Elephant Trail celebrates the community spirit by inviting locals on a brass rubbing trail to discover the stories behind each elephant. Pick up crayons and jotter pads from the Castle Square traders as you move around the trail uncovering the eye-catching elephants’ tales.

Once the family has completed the Free Elephant Trail, celebrate your accomplishment with a bite to eat and refreshing drink at one of Castle Square’s local traders. Castle Square is home to the area’s freshest, most delicious international food. Take your pick from empanada and arepa kings Como y Beba, authentic, heart-warming Nigerian dishes at Daddy O’s or sample traditional Ecuadorian plates from El Guambra.

If you’re looking for food that feeds the soul head to The Original Caribbean Spice, and be sure to stop by Kaieteur Kitchen where chef Faye Tomes is cooking up a Guyanese storm. Each trader will be offering outdoor dining and takeaway depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Elephant & Castle will be welcoming back the community with a whole host of free entertainment and activities across the month. From 1st – 3rd May there’ll be live music flowing, a DJ set and elaborate performers roaming around Castle Square and injecting some energy into your weekends. The fun returns from 29th May to 6th June, where there’ll be giant games and walkabout performers and characters for the whole family to interact with.

Bringing the energy and ambience of Elephant & Castle to the community, Castle Square will have regular street performers popping up on 8th and 9th, 15th and 16th, and 22nd and 23rd May. The local artists and performers hail from social enterprise arts group, Black Sheep Collective, who bring communities together through visual and performing arts.

For those in search of ways to stay entertained and connected from home, Elephant & Castle’s Virtual Community Hub continues to support the community with an action-packed schedule of activities for all ages. Hot off the back of The Oscars, the Community Hub’s May Movie Night on 23rd May is a free evening filled with all things movie trivia. The evening includes a movie hero fancy dress competition, movie medley performed by the Elephant & Castle Community Hub Choir, famous dance routines from Saturday Night Fever and a movie-themed quiz for film buffs.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, the Elephant & Castle Community Hub is presenting another inspiring workshop hosted by local Apex College on Tuesday 25th May with a Start Your Own Business Workshop. The workshop is for those with big ambitions but little knowledge on where to start. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about different business types, the crucial importance of business planning and many other things, including cash flow, employment and where to get financial support for your business.

The Community Hub has once again teamed up with Disability Sports Coach who will host free online activities on Tuesdays through to Fridays, including basketball and football, mindfulness and yoga, dance and a fun social quiz.
