31.10.2023 Elephant and Castle’s vibrant history takes centre stage at Castle Square

Elephant and Castle’s vibrant history took centre stage at Castle Square on the 28th with the help of a local tour guide and actors, who presented an enchanting animated tour of the area’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. This free event captivated attendees with animated narratives based on key buildings, monuments, and streets that have shaped the ever-evolving face of Elephant and Castle.

Narrated by John Whelan, the Artistic Director of the People’s Company, the tour shed light on the mosaic of cultures that have contributed to the area’s unique identity, including Erno Goldfinger’s Metro Central Heights, the Latin community at Maldonado Walk, and the Italian community that called East Street home.

The free event was sponsored by the Inspiring Elephant Community Fund, which provides local community initiatives with an opportunity to apply for multi-year grants of up to £5,000. The Fund, which is now in its second year, will distribute a total of £250,000 of funding over five years.
