03.12.2025 CASTLE SQUARE LIGHTS UP FOR CHRISTMAS!
Over the weekend, Castle Square was filled with festive spirit as crowds gathered for the annual Christmas Lights Switch On, transforming the space into a glowing celebration of community and Christmas cheer.
Visitors warmed up with mulled wine, hot chocolate, and seasonal treats while browsing the Elephant Christmas Market, where independent traders offered handcrafted gifts, unique finds, and holiday favourites. Families flocked to Santa’s Grotto in the afternoon, and live performances throughout the day kept the atmosphere vibrant and joyful.
As the sun set, anticipation built for the main moment of the evening. Just before 6pm, Mayor of Southwark Sunny Lambe proudly led the countdown and switched on the Christmas lights, illuminating Castle Square in a brilliant festive glow and earning cheers from everyone gathered.
The celebrations continued into the evening with choir performances and Christmas music, rounding off a heart-warming start to the holiday season.
