14.06.2022 CASTLE SQUARE AND ELEPHANT PARK HOST PACKED WEEKEND OF FREE ACTIVITIES FOR THE JUBILEE WEEKEND

Elephant and Castle experienced a range of activities to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The first street party of the weekend took place on Friday 3rd June at Castle Square. Guests enjoyed a day full of music, food, drinks, performances, and activities for the whole family to enjoy. The traders of Castle Square and neighbouring tenants, cooked up local delicacies from around the world served in an al-fresco dining area giving an authentic street party feel.

The traders of Castle Square each provided an exclusive Jubilee menu, priced at just £5.50 for each dish on offer. All the traders who took part chose one of their specialty meals for guests to enjoy at a reduced rate exclusively for the Castle Square Street Party, including:

  • Coma Y Beba’s Sandwich Super Special
  • Daddy O’s Jollof Rice with fish or chicken, the choice of Curried Goat or Fried Chicken with rice from Original Caribbean Spice
  • Kaieteur Kitchen’s, Calipso Rice, BBQ Chicken and fried plantains
  • El Guambra, will be showcasing their Fritada, fried pork with fried corn grains, originally from Ecuador

Cocktail bar Cherry Tiger also joined in on the festivities, offering the Pisco Sour as their special cocktail of the day, made up of Brandy distilled in Peru and Chile.

There was also family-friendly entertainment put on by Magician Paul Longhurst, along with face painters in Castle Square who painted the faces of Jubilee revelers free of charge! Well-known Colombian Jazz musician Roberto Pla performed throughout the day with his live jazz band, providing the soundtrack to the event.

Elephant Park also hosted a community street party with accompanying entertainment on Sunday 5th June. Tables were set up along Sayer Street for people to either bring their own food to enjoy or take advantage of some of the many international flavours on offer from the local, independent restaurants and cafes of Elephant Park. There were free arts & crafts activities organised by Art in the Park, to take part in, and Blue Elephant Theatre performed their latest play called ‘Ana and Silly’ by Elephant Springs,

Across from Elephant Springs, Little Louie within Elephant Stores on Ash Avenue hosted a Camberwell Connection Hi Fi session from 1pm to 7pm, playing classic reggae, soul and jazz on original vinyl.
